NRM Party Chairman and President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Monday July 20, picked party nomination forms to vie as National Chairman for the party and also represent NRM as the presidential candidate in the coming 2021 general elections.
Mr. Museveni picked the nomination forms through his Lawyer Edwin Karungire and has since paid the nomination fees of Shs 10, 000, 000 for the position of Presidential flag bearer and Shs10, 000, 000 for the party national Vice Chairman.
The party Electoral Commission Chairman, Dr. Fredrick Tanga Odoi revealed that the former Makindye Member of Parliament, John Ssimbwa has also picked forms to stand for the National Chairman position but hasn’t paid the nomination fees.
“One of the requirements for the position is one’s ability to read and write, loyalty to the party, contribution made to the success and stability of the party, payment of the required fee and being conversant with party laws and constitution,” Tanga said.
Tanga revealed that on the position of the Vice Chairperson, Alhajji Moses Kigongo and Edward Francis Babu have all picked nomination forms for the First National Vice Chairperson and have all paid the nomination fees.
“We haven’t received the Second National Vice Chairperson, for the Vice Chairperson Northern Region, we have Dr. Samuel Odong Oledde who picked forms but hasn’t paid. For Vice Chairperson Karamoja region Simon Peter Aleper has picked forms and has paid,” Tanga said.
For the Vice Chairperson Eastern region so far John Robert Ekogot has picked nominations forms but hasn’t paid the nomination fee of Shs2.5m.
Tanga added that so far three people have picked nomination forms for the Vice Chairperson Central region who include; Twaha Kiganda Sonko, Abdul Ssemu, Godfrey Kiwanda Ssubi.
“For Vice Chairperson Western region, Dr. Emmanuel Dinni Kisembo has so far picked forms while Godfrey Nyakana Amotti and Jackson Walusimbi have picked forms for Vice Chairperson Kampala region,” Tanga noted.
The election of the Party Presidential Flag bearer and the top party positions is to take place from 6th to 8th August through a resolution by circulation mode of voting.
