Flight Capt. Francis Babu who had expressed interest in the position of 1st Vice Chairperson of the ruling NRM Central Executive Committee – CEC has pulled out of the race party chairman, leaving Moses Kigongo in pole position to race to victory.
The development was announced by Party Chairman Yoweri Museveni who reportedly convinced Capt. Babu to withdraw from the race and leave Moses Kigongo unopposed.
But Mr. Museveni in a statement claimed Capt. Babu pulled out in good faith for the benefit of the party and commended his exhibition of comradeship and solidarity.
“I congratulate all the participants in ongoing party activities,” Mr Museveni said adding that “it is my pleasure to witness the hive of activity and the number of people involved in building cohesion and continuity”.
Among other competitors was Kefa Mafumo and businessman Hakeen Asiimwe.
President Museveni has over the last few days chaired the vetting meetings by to draft a shortlist that will be forwarded to the National Executive Committee for voting.
