Crime Scene: Man who killed wife, mother and father surrenders to police

Police in Kisoro have in custody a 28-year-old man who allegedly hacked his relatives including wife, mother, father and brother’s wife to death over a land wrangle.

According to the Kigezi region police spokesperson, Elly Maate, Gerald Ndikumukiza, a resident of Kageyo village, Busengo parish in Nyarubuye sub-county picked a machete on Thursday night and started cutting his family members indiscriminately.

“He started with his wife, called Mariserina Mujawimana, 26, before he descended on his brother’s wife, Joan Nyiramahoro, 20, his father, Deogratius Sebutama, 80, and his mother Bonconsira Nyiraguhirwa,75,”Maate said.

The suspect run away after killing his relatives but n Sunday, he handed himself over to police.

“The suspect reported himself to Kisoro police station at around 6am on Sunday and said the reason for reporting himself was fear of being lynched by the mob,” the regional police mouthpiece said in a statement.

According to Maate, on interrogation, the suspect admitted to killing following a land wrangle between himself and the parents.

Ndikumukiza told detectives that he had been given land in a steepy area where he could not construct a house and this is where problems started.

“He said he went out to look for money to buy his ow land and things didn’t work out as expected. He returned home and out of annoyance by the family members, he killed them.”

The Kigezi region police spokesperson said once inquiries into the matter are complete, the suspect will be produced in court to answer charges accordingly.
