KAMPALA: Embattled city lawyer and the Executive Director of Chapter Four Uganda, a Non-Government Organisation Mr. Nicholas Opiyo is planning to flee the country to the United States of America.
According to sources within opposition, particularly Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform (NUP) Mr. Opiyo has already been granted the refugee status from the US embassy in Kampala.
However, the reasons for Opiyo seeking refugee status in the US remains unclear since he has been carrying out his NGO activities in the country without any disturbance.
“This flight to the US is imminent and once there he will be tasked with coordinating international media and general PR duties for NUP,” a source familiar with the development exclusively spoke to The Daily Express Uganda.
Mr. Opiyo a cleebrated city lawyer has been actively involved in mobilizing resources and offering free legal aid to opposition politicians in various cases. Some of the politicians he has supported include Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi who is currently a presidential candidate in the 2021 elections and Dr Stella Nyanzi the Kampala Woman MP contestant among others.
