Self proclaimed militia group portraying themselves as the UPC Red Brigade has come out to claim being responsible for last night’s attack on the Bukoto home of NUP Spokesperson, Joel Ssenyonyi, The Daily Express can exclusively confirm.
In an e-mail disclosed to one of our journalists, the so-called ‘Red Brigade’ strongly claim they will continue targeting NUP leaders until they stop using the UPC party colour in their political aspirations.
The ‘UPC Red Brigade’ said they threw pamphlets with their warning to NUP at the scene of the attack last night.
It should be noted that Red has always been associated to the Uganda People’s Congress party as their main party color since the 1960s.
We as Daily Express News however cannot confirm whether the accronym ‘UPC’ that this group is portraying as is indeed the full form of Uganda People’s Congress or another unknown political organization.
In the recent past, there has been unending contention over identifying symbols between UPC and newly established NUP with UPC accusing the latter of illegally using their colour (Red) and phrase ‘everywhere’.
This follows the battle between the two parties for the colour red. UPC and the Electoral Commission have been warning NUP to stay off the colour which has been used by UPC for years.
On many occasions, since the unveiling of the NUP party, members are heard chanting ‘NUP everywhere’, similar to UPC the chant and songs.
