National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi also known as Bobi Bine has been granted bail, after three days detention at Nalufenya.
Bobi Wine was released on a non cash bail of Shs 1million while his two sureties were bonded at 5million shillings each
Kyagulanyi appeared in court in Iganga district on Friday after being detained at Nalufenya Police Station in Jinja district.
During his appearance at Iganga Magistrates Court, the presidential hopeful was charged with a COVID-related offence allegedly committed during his campaign trail.
“The offence is bailable and we have substantial sureties,” said Medard Lubega Sseggona, the head of Kyagulanyi’s legal team.
Bobi Wine was arrested on his campaign trail in Luuka district on wednesday for allegedly violating EC guidelines on Covid-19 restrictions.
Following his arrest, deadly riots broke out in some parts of the country. Over a dozen people lost their lives in the chaos, Police reported.
