Capital Fm’s Gaetano Threatens to Sue NTV Uganda for defamation

Gaetano Kaggwa, a presenter on Capital FM and NBS TV, has threatened to drag NTV Uganda to court over a report on his arrest.

In a recent operation conducted over the weekend, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) with help of the Uganda Police Force raided bars to apprehend revelers who were reportedly flouting the Covid19 guidelines as recommended by the Health Ministry.

In the operation which was covered and aired on NTV Uganda showed Gaetano Kaggwa, Musician Hilderman, among those arrested in the KCCA-UPF joint operation.

Just days after the incident, Gaetano has expressed his intent to sue NTV Uganda for invading his privacy and tarnishing his name among right-thinking members of society who might label him a drunkard.

He argues that the NTV coverage could sink his business and make brands shun him.

“You cannot be a private business and you come in to invade another private business and therefore I will sue NTV for character and business assassination,” said Gaetano.

“I do not mind authorities coming in and saying what you are doing is wrong but what upset me were the cameras.”

The ‘Another Round’ show host also defended himself saying neither him nor anyone in the restaurant had flouted Covid19 prevention guidelines.

“I was at Zone 7 restaurant which happens to be my establishment. That’s where I go sometimes to eat dinner, to meet my clients, to talk business. These people entered Zone 7 at 20 minutes after nine o’clock in the evening but remember, I’m an essential worker and I wasn’t in a Bar,” explained Gaetano.

“I was having dinner despite having a loose bottle but everyone there was social distancing and mind you I was wearing a mask.”
