JINJA: Reports reaching our editorial indicate that FDC Presidential candidate, Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) has been arrested by security operatives on his way to Jinja.
“Our Presidential candidate Patrick Amuriat has been arrested in Jinja. Details to follo,” FDC confirmed the arrest on the party’s official Facebook page.
Amuriat was picked from his official car on sunday while traveling to Jinja from Kamuli. He is reportedly being driven to the direction of Kampala.
Police say Amuriat was arrested for flouting Electoral Commission directives on the suspended campaigns in 20 areas including Jinja due to sprouting cases of Covid19.
Earlier in the day, despite the warning and directive by the Electoral Commission announced that their programme would remain unchanged.
Amuriat is expected to campaign in Tororo, one of the places that have been suspended and will head to Luweero on 2nd January 2020.
