FDC’s Amuriat pepper sprayed on his way to Tororo, Hospitalized

TORORO: The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) has been rushed to hospital after being pepper-sprayed by police while heading to Tororo in his vehicle on Monday.

Amuriat was embroiled in a confrontation with police as he attempted to defy orders not to proceed to Tororo District for campaigns.

The unfortunate incident happened at Muwayo village along the Bugiri- Tororo road.

According to the FDC chairman, Wasswa Birigwa, Amuriat was sprayed at close range by the Police as he was lowering his window to speak to a police officer called Abraham Asimwe, following a standoff over the route the FDC candidate should take to his next rally.

He was set to campaign in Tororo, Mbale and Bukedea districts.

By the time he was taken out of his vehicle, Amuriat could not stand or speak, forcing the Police to help him into a Police pickup which was effectively used as an ambulance.

FDC party officials had wanted him to be taken to hospital using his official car but Police insisted on using theirs.

Tororo District is one of the 10 districts that was earmarked by the Electoral Commission (EC) as no go areas for campaigns due to their surging numbers of CoviD-19 cases.
