KAMPALA – The Uganda Police have distanced themselves from alleged reports indicating that the police had a hand in former boxing champion Isaac Zebra Ssenyange’s death.
Zebra Ssenyange commonly known as Mando was gunned down by unknown assailants at his home in St. Francis Zone Bwaise III parish.
At the time of his death, the deceased was serving as the head of Duties in Uganda Boxing Federation and director of a Boxing club known as Zebra Boxing club in Bwaise.
the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesman Luke Owoyesigyire, the territorial Police in Kawempe are already investigating a suspected murder case by shooting.
Owoyesigire says that according eyewitnesses, it is alleged that the deceased was picked from his home on 30/12/2020 at around 1am in the morning by unidentified assailants, not known in number.
“They were travelling in two vehicles”. Owoyesigyire said in a statement.
The Police spokesman adds that he was later shot 400 meters away from his home killing him instantly.
“The area police responded and have already documented the scene. Crucial pieces of evidence and cartridges have been recovered from the scene” he added.
The body of the deceased was taken to City mortuary Mulago for a post mortem.
Owoyesigyire added that the Police task team of intelligence and investigating officers have started the process of building on the evidence collected with an aim of identifying the assailants behind the murder of former national boxing team captain.
