KAMPALA: Veteran Journalist Fred Kakurugu attached to Vision Group’s Orumuri Newspaper has succumbed to COVID-19, The Daily Express confirms.
Kakurugu died at Mbarara Regional Referral hospital where he has been admitted after contracting the deadly coronavirus earlier this month.
A resident and born of Buyanja in Rukungiri district, Kakurugu has been a print journalist for Vision Group’s Orumuri newspaper and Eihwa a Runyakitara news paper based in Mbarara.
Kakurugu’s death comes barely a month after another senior journalist Ssalongo Tugulagala Matojo also succumbed to the virus.
Uganda is currently battling a huge increase in registered cases of the novel covid-19 with a cumulative total of 34,677 confirmed cases, 251 deaths and 11,579 recoveries.
