TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION: The Ministry of ICT and National Guidance together with Government Citizen’s Interaction Center (GCIC) have teamed up with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Uganda to launch Uchaguzi a web-based web-based application to be used in the coming elections.
The launch of this digital application precedes the ‘UVote App‘ which was also launched by the National Unity Platform to protect and monitor election results.
The Uchaguzi voter platform is mainly aimed at increasing access to up-dated and verified electoral information for the voters as the country gears for the much anticipated national elections.
How the Uchaguzi voter platform works
Once you’ve downloaded the app or accessed it via its website uchaguzi.go.ug. You will have a menu of various categories all availing you with unique information about the 2021 electoral process.
Voters can access the full list of presidential candidates along with candidates of members of parliament and also find their manifestos attached on how they plan to tackle key issues.
Details about polling guidelines are also available that is the expected manner in which votes will be carried out on the election-day. This helps voters avoid any inconveniences while voting as they are made fully aware of the rules.
Instructions on how voting will take place are also accessible via the application.
This is a breakthrough in easing voter access to electoral information as the Uchaguzi voter platform is the first of its kind to avail this kind of information to Ugandans didgitally. Many Ugandans rely on mass media to learn about the electoral process. However, information is usually limited due to some constraints. This unique web platform has introduced 24/7 access to all you need to know about the forthcoming 2021 elections.
Important to note is Uchaguzi is not affiliated with any politician, political party, or political entity.
The application is currently available for Android. You can download it here.
