Brig. Bob Ogiki Lands new job as AMISOM Chief of Staff

UPDF SECRETARIAT: Brig. Bob Paciesky Ogiki has been appointed as new chief of military staff at the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), the UPDF deputy spokesman confirmed to the Daily Express.

According to officials, Ogiki, who has been the deputy commandant of the Senior Command and Staff College Kimaka—will travel to Somalia today.

Amisom is an active, regional peacekeeping mission operated by the African Union with the approval of the United Nations Security Council.

It is mandated to support transitional governmental structures, implement a national security plan, train the Somali security forces, and to assist in creating a secure environment for the delivery of humanitarian aid.

As part of its duties, AMISOM also supports the Federal Government of Somalia’s forces in their battle against Al-Shabaab militants.

The Ugandan contingent remains the largest contingent in AMISOM with over 6000 troops based in Sector 1 which comprises Banadir (Mogadishu), Middle, and Lower Shabelle regions.
