Makerere University has announced the opening dates for full opening for both freshers and continuing students as the academic year resumes after since the closure of higher institutions March 2020 to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The government through the Head of State, President Yoweri Kagutra Museveni ordered for the closure of all institutions of learning and suspension of all and related activities in March 2020.
Towards the end of the year, a phased reopening was started with students in their final years and those in candidate classes.
Makerere has now revealed that the institution is ready to have all students back starting with the freshers while the continuing students will follow suit a week later.
Freshers according to Makerere officials will report to campus on Saturday January 30th while continuing students will report on Saturday February 6th.
Also as part of the reopening program, the University has revealed that they will hold their 71st graduation ceremony starting on Tuesday March 16th.

Semester One: Saturday: 6th February 2021 to Saturday 8th May 2021 (13 weeks)
71st Graduation Week: Tuesday: 16th March 2021 to Friday 19th March 2021
Semester One Holiday Break: Saturday: 8th May 2021 to Saturday 15th May 2021 (1 week)
Semester Two: Saturday: 15th May 2021 to Saturday 14th August 2021 (13 weeks)
Recess Term Saturday: 14th August 2021 to Saturday 11th September 2021 (4 weeks)
