Erias Lukwago re-elected as Kampala Lord Mayor 2021

KAMPALA, UGANDA: Incumbent Kampala Capital City Lord Mayor Ssalongo Erias Lukwago aka Omuloodi has been declared winner of the Lord Mayor race defeating NUP’s Nabila Naggayi Sempala in a landslide victory following the mayoral polls casted on Wednesday Jan 20.

Shortly after being announced, Lukwago who was in buoyant mood addressed the media and thanked Kampala city dwellers for putting trust in him and promised to deliver wholeheartedly to address their problems.

“What a historic moment!. Praise be to the Almighty. THANK YOU KAMPALA!. The Statement is unequivocally loud and clear: OMULOODI WAALI. Our love is etched in stone. Asante sana. Mungu awabarik,”. Lukwago said on Wednesday night.

Lukwago saw off 10 candidates in the Mayoral race including former Kampala Woman MP Nabilah Ssempala Naggayi from the National Unity Platform – NUP, musician Joseph Mayanja alias Jose Chameleone (Independent), Daniel Kazibwe alias Ragga Dee of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) among others.

However, Nabilah Nagayi Ssempala the NUP Flag bearer has cited that there were instances of voter bribery and election malpractice from Lukwago’s camp and accused a number of politicians for failing her aspirations and ambitions.

“There is malpractice already, I have just heard at Christ the King civic centre the army has cordoned off the area, we are not saying that it is free and fair, we will assess the day’s election and it unfolds and ends,” she said.

“There is a specific target towards National Unity Platform to fail my ambitions. I look at the confidence Lukwago’s camp has around the police. They were released on bond at 2:00am,” she said.

Lukwago now claims his third term as Kampala Lord Mayor running on the Democratic Party (DP) first in (2011-2016), then Independent (2016-2021) and now on the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC)’s ticket for 2021-2026.
