RUKIGA: Officer shoots two of his colleagues at tally center

RUKIGA DISTRICT: Vote counting at Rukiga district tally center came to a standstill last night when a police officer opened fire and gunned down two of his colleagues.

Kigezi Police Spokesperson Elly Maate identified the suspect as Hamida Ssali and the victims as Titus Muhumuza Titus, a crime intelligence officer who was shot in the leg and Felix Ariho, a special Police Constable. They are both attached to Rukiga Central Police Station.

According to Maate, the incident occurred at around 11:15 p.m. at Rukiga CPS when the officers were at quarter guard to restrict access to the district tally center.

Ssali who was armed with an AK 47 rifle was approached by a drunkard and as she tried to push him away, she accidentally pulled the trigger of her coked gun and all the bullets were realised.

The bullets hit two other officers including D/C Titus Muhumuza who is a crime intelligence staff and a special police Constable Ariho. Muhumuza was shot in the left leg and the right hand while the Ariho was shot in the genital area.

The victims were rushed to Kabale referral hospital but unfortunately the SPC died upon reaching the hospital.

Rukiga District Police Commander Aggrey Okum disarmed the officer and was immediately arrested, detained and charged with attempted murder vide CRB 041/202, which was later amended to murder.
