CHAN 2021: Uganda sets eyes on first victory against Togo

Date: Friday, January 22
*Morocco Vs Rwanda – 7pm | *Uganda Vs Togo – 10pm

Match Preview

Uganda Cranes will take on Togo today (Friday Jan 22) in Matchday two of Group C in the CHAN 2020 championship taking place in Doula, Cameroon.

Both sides suffered mixed results in their respective openers – The Cranes fired blanks in a goalless draws against Rwanda while Togo lost 1-0 to holders Morocco.

Uganda will be without winger Milton Karisa who was stretchered off in the opening minutes.

Coach Jonathan Mckinstry says that he will make some adjustments.

“Togo plays differently from Rwanda, the boys look confident ahead of the match with Togo. We shall make small adjustments going into this game,” Mckinstry told FUFA.

“Togo will present a different challenge from Rwanda but we don’t want to give them their rhythm in the game. If we do that, we shall be punished.”

Togo on the other hand, seek to recover from the loss to defending champions Morocco if they want to prolong their stay in Cameroon.

The West Africans were left with a bitter taste and accused the Malagasy referee of awarding a soft penalty to Morocco which Yahya Jabrane converted.

Togo were resolute on the day and could have snatched an equaliser with Yendoutie Nane and Marouf Tchakel both coming close.

It was a spirited performance for the side playing at CHAN for the first time, and will need to build on that against Uganda Cranes before their last match against Rwanda.

To reach this stage, Togo beat Benin before ousting Nigeria in October 2019 to qualify through the Western Zone B side.
