KAMPALA, UGANDA: Uganda this week polled elections for City Mayors, district chairpersons and councilors with many politicians securing big seats in the coming political term.
Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago retained his seat to extent his term for another 5 years till 2026 while newly formed political party the National Unity Platform secured over 98% of councilor seats in Kampala with 41 out of the 44 division councilors from NUP.
According to the pay structure for local government officials, the Lord Mayor for Kampala Capital Authority (KCCA), Erias Lukwago is entitled to a monthly salary of UGX 24,000,000 subject to taxation.
On top of that, the Lord Mayor also gets a weekly allowance of UGX 2,000,000 (for daily office operations), and UGX 20,000,000 annually to cater for people in need.
The Deputy Lord mayor for Kampala pockets UGX 16,000,000 monthly according to the KCCA pay structure while the Speaker gets UGX 13,000,000. KCCA Councilors will earn UGX 5,550,000 monthly.
Municipal mayors countrywide pocket UGX 13,000,000 irrespective of allowances that come along such as a vehicle, fuel, and so on.
District chairpersons countrywide earn UGX 1,500,000 monthly. On top of that, they’re entitled to basic allowances such as housing, fuel, health, donations and so on.
Councilors representing sub-counties at district level (LC5 councilors) will earn UGX 350,000 monthly plus exclusive allowances for every district plenary.
