At least 7 people feared dead as boat capsizes on Lake Victoria

KAMPALA, UGANDA: At least Seven people are feared dead as another boat capsized on Lake Victoria today morning.

According to eye witness, the accident happened in the wee hours of Monday morning January 25th after the boat they were travelling on board capsized.

The boat was traveling from Lwanabatya Landing Site in Kyamuswa Sub County Kalangala district to Kasenyi landing site in Entebbe capsized in the lake.

It is alleged that the fishing boat was ferrying nine people of which four Women and 3 children drowned after their boat was hit by heavy winds.

The deceased have been identified as Gloria Amito, Grace Amito, Irene Amiya and Caroline Afoyoloti. The remaining are 3 Children aged 4 and 2 years respectively.

The survivors include Lawrence Nzage, the coxswain and Patrick Lubulwa who escaped death by holding on a jerrican and fuel tank.

By press time, a search is on for the deceased’s bodies.
