Police officer Murdered and dumped at Kabale EC Offices

KABALE, UGANDA: Police in Kabale district is investigating a circumstance under which a police officer was murdered in cold blood at the offices of the District Electoral Commission.

The deceased identified as a 58 year Garatius Baryabakabu, was attached to Kabale Central Police station.

His gun SMG rifle No 565824456 was also taken with 30 rounds of ammunition by yet to identified assailants.

Baryabakabu is said to have been slain by assailants while on duty guarding the offices of the Electoral Commission on Makanga hill in Kabale municipality.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi regional police spokesperson says the deceased was discovered dead in his central box at the commission main gate at 7 am by his colleague, police officer Solomon Twinomujuni who had come to take over guard.

“The body was found with both legs and arms tied with injuries near the nose and the forehead, which points to murder,” Maate said.

“The AK 47 number S56-5824456 SMG with 30 rounds of ammunition was also taken by assailants”

Maate wondered why Baryakabu was deployed alone at night, noting that if he was with another officer he could have rescued him from danger.

He said that the body of the deceased has been taken to Kabale regional referral hospital for post-mortem as police continue to hunt for the assailants.

Police opened the case file on SD REF no 18/28/01/2020 as further investigation continue.
