NRM’s Kanusu seeks vote recount in Jinja City Mayor elections

JINJA, UGANDA:- The National Resistance Movement NRM’s Kanusu Robert has petitioned the Chief Magistrates Court challenging the victory of the National Unity Platform NUP’s Okocha Kasolo Alton as Jinja City Mayor.

Kanusu (NRM) wants a vote recount in 22 polling stations in a case that is slated to be heard on Monday, 01st February 2021 at 2pm.

Kasolo, a comedian and media personality attached to Jinja based Baba FM was declared Jinja City’s first mayor amidst tight security.

Okocha Kasolo Peter (NUP) was declared the winner with 11899 votes followed by his main rival the Forum for Democratic change’s Nabwiso Frank with 10398 and NRM’s Kanusu Robert in third place with 9810 votes.

Others that were in the race, Democratic Party’s Tibenkana Godfrey with 8327 votes, Independent Zziwa Julius with 1802 votes, Independent Ntuyo Mohammed with 592 votes.

ANT’s Kalembe Rose with 364, Independent Jeff Bidandi with 290 votes, Independent Joseph Bamwite with 259 votes and Independent Agaba Joseph Haman with 203 votes.
