KAMPALA, UGANDA: The Clerk to Parliament Mrs. Jane Kibirige has released the tentative program for the inauguration ceremony of the 11th Parliament of Uganda.
According to a circular issued on Friday January 29th 2021, signed by Jane Kibirige, the proposed program starts on Wednesday May 12th 2021 when Yoweri Museveni the new President-elect will be sworn into office for his 6th term as Uganda’s President.
According to Kibirige, Museveni will be sworn into office by Chief Justice Alphonse Owiny Dollo assisted by the Head of the Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet Mr. John Mitala.
Mrs. Kibirige notified that after the swearing in of the President, the Clerk to Parliament in conjunction with the office of the Speaker of Parliament will send a proclamation to the President to sign summoning the Members of Parliament for their sitting and also dispatch a letter to the Chief Justice inviting him to the August House to preside over the election of the Speaker of Parliament.
The statement also indicated that on May 13th 2021, the Clerk to Parliament will notify all new elected Members of Parliament the dates of their swearing in.
She also indicated that the swearing in of the elected Members of Parliament will last for 3 days from Monday May 17th to 19th 2021.
The inauguration ceremonies will climax on Thursday May 20th 2021 when the new Members of Parliament elect the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker at function that will be presided over the Chief Justice.
