Police Summons Isingiro District Boss for raping a student

MBARARA, UGANDA: Police in Mbarara have summoned the Isingiro LC5 Chairman, Jeremiah Kamurari on accusations of attempting to rape a university Student.

Kamurari, who doubles as the NRM District Chairperson in Isingiro is alleged to have lured a 21-year-old Patricia Katushabe, a student at Kampala International University (KIU) into a lodge and tried to force her into a sexual activity before she escaped.

Area police spokesman Samson Kasasira says Katushabe reported the matter at Mbarara Police Station on Wednesday last week.

Katushabe who hails from Endinzi in Isingiro district told police that she had sought out the chairman for his signature and stamp on a recommendation document.

“The victim had called the chairperson on phone the previous day and the chairperson directed her to find him in Mbarara Town,” Kasasira said.

“On (Wednesday) the victim came to meet the chairperson for the stamp. They met at Stanbic bank where the chairperson told the victim to sit in a vehicle and they go for stamp.”

“The suspect drove up to a lodge in Ruharo, took a victim to a room where he attempted to rape her from. The victim managed to run away from the suspect and was rescued by the people outside the lodge who brought her to Mbarara Police Station and reported.”

Kasasira says when Kamurari was contacted by police, he said he left the properties of the victim at Booma hotel where they were recovered from.”
