LUWERO, UGANDA: President Museveni has appointed former Deputy Inspector General of Police Maj Gen Sabiiti Muzeyi as the new General Manager of the UPDF’s Luwero Industries.
Muzeyi replaces Brig Octavius Butuuro who has been heading the factory since 2017. Buturo has been transferred to be Deputy Commandant Senior Command and Staff College Kimaka in Jinja.
The UPDF Spokesperson Brig Flavia Byekwaso confirmed the development.
Speaking to Daily Express on phone, Byekwaso described Muzeeyi as a “brilliant officer” who is more than capable of running the massive facility.
The Luwero Industries is a subsidiary of the National Enterprise Corporation(NEC) – the economic wing of the UPDF.
Some of the works done at the Luwero Industries include manufacturing of different kinds of ammunition, assembly of grenades, gun repair, aircraft repair, carpentry and metal fabrication as well as technical training.
The plant was also famously used to assemble Uganda’s first locally made buses named “Kayoola.”
Maj. Gen Sabiiti was the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) of the Uganda Police Force since March 2018 until December 2020 when he was replaced by Maj. Gen Paul Lokech.
