KANYANYA, KAMPALA (UG): Police in Kanyanya, Kampala Division is investigating the death of Former Red Pepper and BTM TV journalist Hadad Mubiru aka Rasta Hadad.
According to the Uganda Journalists Association (UJA), Hadad’s body was found lying by the roadside on Sunday evening in Kanyanya, Kampala.
“On February 7, 2021 at 8am, Police at Kanyanya received a call from a one Sseruyange that there was a body of a male adult, who was later identified as Hadad Mubiru, a journalist with BTM news, in Kanyanya Quarter Zone,” said Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire in a statement released Monday morning.
According to Owoyesigyire, the Officer in Charge of Kanyanya Police station responded together with the Scene of Crime officer and cordoned off the area to facilitate investigations.
“According to one of the residents in the area, the deceased was seen crawling near the scene the previous night on February 6. The witness said she didn’t know the intentions of the person so she decided to enter her house and lock,” Owoyesigire said.
“In the morning, they found him dead and the body was conveyed by police to the mortuary. The body, however, didn’t have any visible serious injuries,” he added.
Preliminary reports indicate that Mubiru was first tortured and later shot dead in Kanyanya, a Kampala suburb.
“We are waiting for a postmortem report today to understand what caused his death,” Owoyesigyire said.
However the cause of his death is yet to be established.
