ARUA PARK, KAMPALA: A man only identified as “TOWA” has been shot dead on Wednesday morning after he reportedly attacked and stabbed a police officer who was responding to a crime incident.
At around 5:30, Police Constable Simon Sebale rushed to Arua Park in down town Kampala, where the suspect had been spotted carrying suspected stolen items (two boxes of margarine) from a shop.
Police says while the officer confronted the suspect, he threatened to harm and later on kill him if he dared to arrest him.
“The suspect was armed with a pair of pliers and a screw driver. When the officer approached the suspect, he was attacked. The suspect stabbed him with a screw driver and also hit him with pliers,” said Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman Patrick Onyango.
“In self defence, the officer discharged bullets that hit the suspect. Later both, the officer and the suspect, were rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital in critical condition.”
The suspect was later pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital while the officer is admitted in Critical condition.
Onyango says the body of the deceased was taken to Kampala Capital City Authority mortuary Mulago for postmortem.
