JINJA, UGANDA: At least three people are reportedly confirmed dead following an open gunfire in Jinja City around Mailo Mbiri on Thursday evening.
It’s alleged that the incident happened when OC Buwenge Police, Corporal Mayambala, knocked a bodaboda cyclist and when he stopped to check on the victim, angry bodaboda riders gathered to beat him up.
This forced him to call for help from Jinja Police who came and started using teargas and live bullets to disperse the angry crowd (bodaboda riders and residents).
In the fracas, 3 people have been reportedly shot! 2 died instantly while the 3rd one died in Alshafa Hospital in Mafubira.
By press time, police was yet to issue a statement on the incident.
