Man hacks wife with machete over suspected infidelity

KAMULI DISTRICT: A mother of three in Kamuli district is nursing facial injuries after her husband allegedly cut her using a machete upon suspecting that she was engaged in an extramarital affair.

It is alleged that Sarah Nakanyike a the resident of Butalaaba village in Southern Division, Kamuli Municipality, was cut by Richard Basoga Kadiita, 40, while she was asleep in their bed on Friday morning.

Her cries attracted neighbours who rushed her to Kamuli Health Care Emergency for treatment.

According to Dr John Were, Nakanyike was cut across the right jaw and the upper lobe of the nose, narrowly missing the right eye.

Nakanyike bled profusely leading to mass blood loss which prompted immediate blood transfusion.

She narrated that it all started after Basoga arrived from his workplace at Masese Landing Site, Jinja City.

“Without any disagreement, I served him supper, which he ate absent-minded, saying he had a low appetite,” Nakanyike narrated, adding that she went to bed as Basoga busied himself with sketchy tasks around the house.

“I had fallen asleep before the sharp blow hit my face. I jerked and shouted, only to see him dashing out of the house and vanishing in the dark of night.  The neighbours arrived and rushed me to this (medical) facility,” she said.

Asked if they had earlier had a disagreement, Nakanyike said that it happened two months ago when they disagreed over what she called “small issues.”

“He stopped buying food for the family. I take care of the children singlehandedly,” she narrated, amid sobs.
