KAMPALA, UGANDA: The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has announced that it will carry out the national population census in 2022, two years earlier than the usual interval.
The statistics body is by law mandated to conduct the national population census every after 10 years with the last one having came 7 years back in 2014.
According to UBOS Executive Director Chris Mukiza, a total of Shs138.6bn to is required to carry out the 2022 national population and housing census including the census of livestock in the country.
Mukiza explains that they have decided to have the census next year to enable the country to have up to date data for implementation of the National Development Plan III.
He says the census will be carried out between the last week of August and the first week of September.
Mukiza was appearing before parliament’s finance committee to present their 2019/2020 financial review.
According to the national statistics body Uganda currently has a population of nearly 45 million.
