KAMPALA, UGANDA: Former presidential candidate Engineer Willy Mayambala has asked the Supreme Court seeking to block the withdraw of election petition filed by Hon Robert Kyagulanyi of the National Unity Platform (NUP).
In a letter dated February 25 2021 addressed to the Supreme Court, Mayambala said he was ready to take over the Petition and asked to be guided on the procedure for a takeover.
“I write to object to the withdrawal of the presidential election petition formerly filed by Hon Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu against several defendants lined up in the petition as I write to express interest in taking on the matter and be guided,” reads the letter in part.
Mayambala firmly asked to be guided on all the necessary procedures, what is required of him to take over the matter and if there are chances of him to file new evidence.
“I wish to re-affirm that I have great interest in the petition going on and being listened to by the honourable court. Please grant me the necessary permission to go on,” he said.
Kyagulanyi through his lawyers on Wednesday formally filed an application for withdrawing this petition in which he challenged the victory of NRM’s Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Museveni, citing several inconsistencies.
Court is yet to decide on allowing the withdrawal.
Court promised to resume hearing of the withdraw application as soon it is published in the Uganda Gazette and this is expected to be next week
