Two UPDF Soldiers Arrested after fleeing from army base for a month

KANUNGU DISTRICT: Two UPDF Soldiers have been arrested following a joint security operation headed by Kanungu Deputy Resident District Commissioner Gad Ahimbisibwe Rugaju.

The two soldiers identified as RA 224963 Musinguzi Sulaiman and RA Amperene Vanancio were picked from the lodge after a tip from concerned locals, and whisked off to the 307th Brigade Headquarters at Mburameizi for interrogations.

Preliminary investigations from the arresting squadron indicate that the two received an Army Pass Leave for one day from their base, but they didn’t report back to the base for over a month.

A Local Council official around Market Street in Kihihi Town Council where Hospitable Lodge is located, said that the two men had become a nuisance to the members of the public in the area after they started beating up people at night.

When contacted, the Deputy RDC Gad Ahimbisibwe Rugaju said that the two soldiers were attached to Rwenshama Army Detach and confirmed their arrest saying that they had overstayed their Pass Leave and had stayed in a Lodge since 18th January 2021 where they accumulated bills in food and accommodation.

The arrest comes a few days after Deputy RDC Gad Ahimbisibwe Rugaju ordered the closure of all bars and lodges in Kihihi Town which were operating illegally.

Efforts to get a comment from the 307 Brigade Headquarters Spokesman were futile as the known numbers were off when our reporter called for a comment
