Ugandan-British Film Actor Daniel Kaluuya emerged winner of the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor for his amazing turn as Chairman Fred Hampton in the Shaka King-directed Judas and the Black Messiah.
The awards ceremony was held virtually on Sunday evening by hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler based both New York and Los Angeles.
The actor bested a talented field that included Sacha Baron Cohen (“The Trial of the Chicago 7”), Jared Leto (“The Little Things”), Bill Murray (“On the Rocks”) and Leslie Odom Jr (“One Night in Miami”).
The awards night went smoothly as per the new normal, considering the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic, however, as the telecast cut to Kaluuya’s feed for his acceptance speech, it became apparent that his audio was muted.
Fortunately, it only took a couple of minutes for the technical team to resolve the issue and he was given a chance to make his speech again.
Kaluuya was able to thank King for inspiring him and he referred to the talented director as his “leader and general”.
He won the Golden Globe award after receiving two nominations from the academy as announced early last month.
Daniel Kaluuya of British Nationality was born in London to Damalie Namusoke and Stephen Kaluuya, which, makes him Ugandan by decent and British by birth.
