AFCON U20: Derrick Kakooza Hat-trick lifts Uganda over Tunisia to reach finals

Derrick Kakooza starred with a hattrick as debutants Uganda continued with their dream run at the Total Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), beating Tunisia 4-1 at the Olympic Stadium in Nouakchott on Monday to book a date against Ghana in Saturday’s final.

The Uganda Hippos have secured their place in the U20 Africa Cup of Nations final following a well deserved 4-1 defeat over Tunisia in Monday Night’s semi-final at Stade Cheikha Ould Boïdiya in Mauritania.

Derrick Kakooza’s hattrick and a strike from Richard Basangwa were enough as Hippos setup a stiffing final match of the tournament against Ghana in Saturday’s much anticipated final.

Ghana had earlier defeated Gambia 1-0 thanks to a stunning Percious Boah’s first-half freekick.

Richard Basangwa put Uganda in the lead with just 4minutes of play before Kakooza made it 2-0 lead for Uganda but the Tunisians pulled a goal back through Adam Ben Lamin in 39th minute to end the game 2-1 by halftime.

The Hippos were quick to stretch their lead when Bobos Byaruhanga setup Derrick Kakooza to notch his brace with a beautiful finish inside 5 minutes of the second half.

In the 73rd Minute, Kakooza finished off Tunisia with a calm finish off Ivan Bogere’s pass to put Uganda 4-1 with just less than 20 minutes of play.
