GULU DISTRICT, UGANDA: Police in Gulu have arrested a man identified as Michael Tolit for allegedly hacking his mother to death, the Daily Express has learnt.
The incident happened at 1am on Friday in Michan Parish, Bar-dege Layibi division, in Gulu city.
The deceased has been identified as Rose Achan, from the same area.
The suspect is reported to have cut the mother’s legs and hands and then the head off using an axe.
When Police went to arrest him, he had locked the door and Police had to use a tear gas canister to force him to open the door.
In the process, the suspect was injured when he tried to pick the tear gas canister and he has been admitted to Gulu regional referral hospital for treatment.
Aswa regional Police Spokesman Jimmy Patrick Okema confirmed this incident saying that the case has been registered under SD REF: 05/05/03/2021 at Gulu CPS
Okema also revealed the suspect is believed to have developed a mental illness before committing the heinous crime.
