RAKAI DISTRICT, UGANDA: Police in Rakai have arrested and detain a 28-year-old man accused of defiling a six-year-old girl from the Neighborhood.
The suspect identified as Joshua Ssempijja a resident of Kakumiro village in Lwamaggwa town council had escaped shortly after the incident but police and residents got him from a hideout to put him under custody.
It is alleged that Ssempijja, who for long has been a friend to his victim’s family, especially her mother had escorted the girl to the well when he allegedly turned against her and forced his way into her genitals.
Jessica Najjemba, one of the concerned residents who helped the girl back home, said that the girl was bleeding and couldn’t support herself.
The victim was rushed to Lwamaggwa HCIII where she is still admitted and is receiving crtical treatment.
The victim’s mother says she did not expect Ssempijja to turn against her daughter since she trusted him as a responsible person.
ASP Muhammad Nsubuga, the Regional Police spokesperson, confirmed Ssempijja’s arrest saying investigations have kicked off. He is currently being detained at Lwamaggwa police station.
