Former NUP Aspirant for Kisoro Municipality dies in accident

KISORO, UGANDA: At least one person has died on spot and six other are nursing injuries at St Francis Hospital Mutolere following a fatal accident after the vehicle they were traveling in overturned along Nyundo – feeder Road in Kisoro District.

Elly Master, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson identified the deceasead as Irinatwe Brian a former National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate for Kisoro Municipality Mayoral seat in just concluded election who unfortunately lost to Richard Ndyana of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

According to Maate, the fatal accident happened at around 8:00 pm on Sunday evening at Rugaaji village in Nyundo Sub County when the vehicle registration number UAD 506S overturned.

It’s reported that the vehicle was carrying footballers who were returning to Kisoro Town after a match in Bukimbiri Sub County.

Maate however did not disclose the cause of the accident but said that the driver of the vehicle which is believed to have been overspeeding lost control and the vehicle overturned.

The body of the deceased was taken to Kisoro Main Hospital mortuary pending postmortem before it’s handed over to the relatives for burial.

The six other people whose names were not revealed but are all footballers who sustained injuries are admitted in hospital.

Maate said that the case of fatal accident was registered at Kisoro Central Police Station under reference number TAR 10/2021 where the wreakage of the vehicle is parked for further investigation.
