MILAN, ITALY: Former Real Madrid, AC Milan and Manchester City striker Robinho has had his nine-year sentence for his sexual assault case upheld at Milan’s Court of Appeal in Italy.
Robinho, 37, was handed the sentence in December for his participation in a gang rape that took place in Italy in 2013, for which he was initially found guilty in 2017.
The disgraced footballer chose to appeal the verdict, which has now been upheld in Milan’s Court of Appeal.
The court determined that Robinho had “belittled” and “brutally humiliated” the victim, who was celebrating her 23rd birthday on the night of the incident at a well-known Milan venue, as reported by Italian newspaper outlet La Repubblica.
Now, Robinho has upto 45 days to appeal to the Supreme Court of Cassation, the highest court of appeal, or court of last resort in Italy.
The former Milan forward has been sentenced alongside his friend, Ricardo Falco.
The striker re-joined his boyhood club in 2020 after spells at European giants Real Madrid, Manchester City and AC Milan, whom he was playing for at the time of the incident.
