UPDATE: 1 Person Confirmed Dead in Fido-dido Building Collapse

The incident occurred at around 12:45 hours when a group of people were attending lunch hour service at the second floor of the structure.

FIDO-DIDO BUILDING COLLAPSE: One person has been confirmed dead following an incident on Monday afternoon building housing Fido Dido ice cream outlet along Kampala road collapsed leaving over 15 injured.

The development was announcement by Deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokersperson, Luke Owoyesigire.

“One of the victims only identified as Mama Nava, a resident of Nsambya, Kampala has since succumbed to the injuries she sustained during the incident,” Owoyesigire said.

“Her body has been conveyed to city mortuary at Mulago referral Hospital for postmortem,” he added.

He added, “The findings are that after the caving in of the ceiling, different groups of people started taking the victims to Mulago and other health facilities in Kampala. At Mulago, we have confirmed 18 victims who were injured as a result of the collapse. Our detectives are still moving around different hospitals to ascertain the real number of the injured during the incident.”

Several people were still trapped in the rubble.

Eyewitnesses said the structure was due for demolition.

Police said rescue teams are still conducting search for other victims.
