Masaka Kids Becomes First Ugandan Brand to hit 3 Million Facebook Followers

Masaka Kids Africana, a Popular Ugandan dance group has hit 3 million followers on Facebook, becoming the first Ugandan brand to reach the milestone.

Shockingly, the dance group now has more followers than celebrated Ugandan artists including Bobi Wine at 2 million followers, comedian Anne Kansiime who has 1.8 million, Eddy Kenzo and Sheebah both at 1.3 million and Juliana Kanyomozi who has 1.2 million followers.

“Thank you for 3 million followers, a huge thank you to all our new followers, as well as those who have been with us for while,” Masaka Kids Africana posted as they shared their excitement.

The dance group has children from as young as 2 years. The group’s origin is an orphanage in Masaka where many children who have lost their parents seek shelter and other basic necessities. They dance as a form of advocacy and as a way to raise money for their orphanage.

They have made popular videos on YouTube including dancing to Jerusalema, the Toosie slide challenge among others. They have also performed in many of Eddy Kenzo’s music videos.

Last year, the group was nominated in the category for Best Dance group at the African Muzik Magazine Awards. They were also the second Ugandan content creators to get the Gold Creator award from YouTube.
