Muhammad Ssegirinya aka ‘Mr. Update’ arrested

KAMPALA– Police in Kampala have arrested Kawempe North MP-Elect, Muhammad Ssegirinya for allegedly attempting to mobilize National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters in the city center to engage in protests.

Ssegirinya was arrested from Mini Price in downtown Kampala at midday today March 22, 2021.

The development was confirmed by fellow NUP MP elect for Kawempe South, Hajji Kazibwe Bashir who posted the news on his social page.

“BREAKING NEWS: Hon @SsegirinyaMuham Arrested By Police #FreeMrUpdate” Kazibwe said on Facebook.

Ssegirinya has been in the spotlight since last week after it emerged that his academic documents had issues as he was sued to have his election victory overturned.

The protests calling for the release of detained NUP supporters were announced and initiated by the party leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine who unfrotunately was quickly arrested by police and drove him back to his home in Magere, Wakiso District.
