Nigeria beat Benin 1-0 to seal AFCON Qualification

AFCON Qualifiers:
Saturday March 27,
Lesotho 0-0 Sierra Leone
Benin 0-1 Nigeria

Nigeria football national team the ‘Super Eagles’ have become the latest nation to seal qualification for the Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which will be hosted by Cameroon in 2022.

The Super Eagles confirmed their qualification even before their matchday five qualifier game against Benin, whom they eventually defeated 0-1 to secure top spot in Group L with 11 points, 5 ahead of second placed Benin.

Sierra Leone’s 0-0 draw with Lesotho in the group’s other qualifier meant that Nigeria, who headed into the match against Benin on eight points, could not be caught.

Benin, in second on seven points, remain in the hunt, as do third-placed Sierra Leone.

However, the Leone Stars—on four points—cannot catch Nigeria, while bottom-placed Lesotho (who face Nigeria in Lagos in the final qualifier) are entirely out of the running.
