NATIONAL – Former East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) speaker, Daniel Kidega, is hospitalized in Kampala after being seriously injured in a nasty car crush over the weekend.
Democratic Party president Nobert Mao who is also a brother to Kidega confirmed the news on Sunday afternoon with a tweet stating that accident was a serious one and is currently hospitalized.
“Dan’s accident was serious, he had a head on collision with a FUSO Lorry. His car went off the road and rolled. He was taken to TMR Hospital in Naalya. He is unconscious.” He said Kidega sustained injuries on his head, right arm and left leg.
Mao said in a brief statement that due to injury caused to his chest blood seeped into his lungs as he coughed and so he needs life support to enable him get enough oxygen.
“The doctor says they have sedated him (Kidega) so that his brain can rest. There’s no need for surgery on the brain. He is expected to heal naturally with the support of medication,” said Mao.
According to Dr. Erasmus Okello, who is working on him, Kidega’s brain rotated a bit on impact and got grazed on the rough surface of the skull that led some bleeding in the brain but the scan shows that he’s out of danger.
Efforts to get information from the Uganda Police on the specific place where the accident occurred has failed as Police said that they are not aware about the accident.
Who is Dan Kidega?
Kidega was East African Leslative Assembly Speaker from December 2014 until June 2017 from where he retired to become the chairman of Atiak Sugar Factory, in Amuru District in August 2020.
An old boy of Ntare school, Kidega was student leader in the 1990s, rising to the rank of Chairman of the National Youth Council.
He worked as the Private Secretary to the Vice President of Uganda from 2000 to 2001.
He also served as a Member of Parliament in the Seventh Parliament from 2001 until 2006, as a National Youth Representative.
