The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) has postponed its 29th graduation ceremony to April 10, an extension of two weeks from the earlier communicated date.
Dr. Halima Wakabi Akbar, the University Academic Registrar, had earlier announced that the University would hold the virtual graduation ceremony on March 27, 2021.
Over 1200 students, including those who missed the December 30, 2020 graduation (first batch) and those who completed in earlier years but had not graduated yet, are set to graduate, according to notice issued by the Registrar.

“Graduands should pay all their respective graduation fees in their respective Campuses accounts and present a bank deposit slip to the Bursary in duplicate. Those who shall have paid all the University dues will appear in the graduation booklet and no one will be issued their academic documents before full payment of all University dues,” Dr. Wakabi said in the Notice.
She reminded the gradaunds to consider hitting the deadline of making payments, April 2, noting that beyond that they will have to wait for the next graduation.
“Because of the Covid-19 restrictions, the graduation will be held virtually (online) for students except those who will receive the invitation cards,” she said adding “no student will be allowed in the graduation venue without an invitation card.”
Dr. Wakabi cautioned the invited persons to strictly observe the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on COVID-19 “and follow the rules of procedure given by the organizers.”
It should be noted that IUIU is holding two graduation ceremonies for this particular academic year, having held one in December 2020.
