Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has decried dishonesty, greed and corruption among leaders at various levels, urging that as the world celebrates Easter, Ugandans ought to learn to serve humanity.
In his Easter message issued on Good Friday, the Kabaka also congratulated the public upon the recent general election and asked whoever was angered, to calm down, knowing that people have the right to elect leaders of their choice.
Easter will be celebrated this Sunday across the world. It is a Christian festival and holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day after his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary c. 30 AD.
“Easter reminds us of Jesus’ suffering and tears which resulted in redemption of the world. It’s also incumbent upon us all, to honestly surrender our lives for the service of others.
“However, we are shocked that whatever is taking place in Uganda nowadays is not based on suffering for the sake of others. It is infuriating seeing that our leaders are still stuck in actions of dishonesty, dictatorship, greed, and self-aggrandisement,” the Kabaka said.
“We are asking for justice in all cases emanating from the recent general election and the release of all those who were arrested because of their political ideologies…We urge you not to dilute the essence of Easter when people’s rights are abused.”
Praying for the sick and those who are bereaved due to COVID-19, the Kabaka also urged the public to observe the Ministry of Health standard operating procedures to control the spread of the pandemic.
The procedures include wearing masks, frequent washing of hands with soap or sanitiser, and ensuring social distance.
