Wanyama speaks out on appointment as new CEO at Vision Group

Senior Presidential Press secretary and Seasoned Journalist, Don Wanyama was on Tuesday approved by the Vision Group board as the new Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, replacing Robert Kabushenga after the latter resigned from the position he had held for over 15 years.

The meeting which decided Wanyama’s fate on Tuesday headed by the board chairman Mr. Patrick Ayota was also attended by Non-Executive Directors Moses Mwase, Robinah Kaitiritimba Kitungi, and David Mafabi together with Deputy CEO, Gervase Ndyanabo.

Wanyama is set to take over office as the new Vision Group MD effective May 1, 2021.

Speaking about his appointment for such a top job, Don Wanyama expressed gratitude for the trust and opportunity given to him and promised to deliver with utmost efforts to see New Vision and its sister companies reach heights.

“The chairman and the board, I want to thank you for this appointment. It is a show of faith of course, but also an endorsement,” Wanyama stated.

He said it was good to be back home, having started his journalism career at Vision Group.

“They placed faith in a young teacher then, who had just come out of university. I am glad that 15 years down the road, there is still faith in me,” Wanyama who was a teacher before he crossed over into journalism said.

According to Wanyama, the terrain has changed a lot “over those years and I am getting back into this institution when a lot has changed”.

Don Wanyama’s Career

Wanyama worked at New Vision as sub-editor before crossing over to Monitor Publications, where he worked as Chief Sub-Editor, before being promoted to Managing Editor.

Later, he returned to Vision Group as Special Projects Editor, before being picked by President Yoweri Museveni to work as a special media assistant at the Office of the National Chairman of the ruling National Resistance Movement.

The President later appointed Wanyama to become his Senior Press Secretary, the position he holds currently.
