Joshua Akandinda, a student who had decided to flee his family and school, after a short Easter holiday at home, has at last been found.
Akandinda, a student at Seeta High School (Main Campus), is reported to have been picked by his elder sister on Good Friday. But, the family later declared him missing after having realised he did not make it back to school, when he left home.
The school’s headteacher Allan Obbo, told this publication that the student had been picked by his family and taken home; through a clear due process. “But days later, we realised he had left his home, but never reached school. He was nowhere in our records as a student who had returned from home. Later, we realised his family was also looking for him and had filed a report with police.”
Investigators interviewed the school authorities and the family and later traced him in a Motel in Mukono.
He had gone missing on April 6, 2021.
The school explains that the matter was reported to the school and investigations were started. He has been found in Mukono, in a lodge, where he had chosen to stay.
In a recorded audio, he claims he has issues at home which had made him flee. He says that he wanted to escape from home and be on his own.
“I boarded a taxi and asked them to bring me to Mukono (town). I had already planned it and was tired of home. I had my pocket money and got a place where to sleep. I was staying at Boston Motel.”
He claims he was paying sh12,000 per day. He also says he would always come to church for prayers and later would go back to the motel; and was planning to get somewhere to rent and start working. “I was determined to get somewhere to sleep and something to eat,” as he starts out life on his own.
