Midfielder Joshua Lubwama scored twice from the spot while Viane Sekajugo netted the other from open play to gift Wakiso Giants an emphatic 3-1 home victory against Police at Kabaka Kyabaggu stadium.

In a game marred with controversy, Police managed to pull one back through Herman Wasswa Nteza but second assistant referee Jane Mutonyi had cancelled two goals for the Cops with offside calls.

Wakiso Giants had the first attempt through midfielder Rahmat Senfuka who forced goalkeeper Tom Ikara into a save before Sekajugo put the rebound wide.

In the 18th minute, the Purple Sharks broke the deadlock through midfielder Joshua Lubwama’s well converted penalty that resulted from a foul on talisman Sekajugo by Police left-back Eric Ssenjobe.

Yusuf Ssozi would later launch a low drive that hit the post. The eventual man of the match was again played through by Muwada Mawejje only for Kirya to save his initial rocket plus the rebound as the visitors trailed 1-0 at the interval.

Five minutes after recess, Wakiso Giants doubled the lead from another penalty after Ssenjobe was judged to have handled the ball in the box only for Lubwama to ably poke home.

As Police kept pressing the hosts against the wall, Hassan Mahmood saw his free-kick deflect off Wakiso Giants’ defensive wall before Kirya failed to contain the ball that fell in the path of Tony Mawejje. The midfielder would then tap in but couldn’t celebrate as Mutonyi’s offside flag was already raised.

Few minutes after from the incident, Wakiso Giants stretched their lead to three thanks to Sekajugo who finished off Fahad Kawooya’s brilliant cross from the right past helpless Ikara.

In the 71st minute, second half substitute Wasswa pulled one back with a timely tapping from an inswinging free kick. Police would later put the ball in the back of the net through Tony Kiwalazi, only to see another goal ruled out for offside by a keen Mutonyi.

The disappointing result leaves Police unmoved from the 5th position on 37 points while Wakiso Giants went onto 24 points in the 12th.
