The Hague, Netherlands: The International Criminal Court will tomorrow (Thursday, May 6), make its decision on the sentence of the former Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) senior commander Dominic Ongwen over war crimes.
Ongwen was in February found guilty of 61 of the 70 counts of crimes against humanity and war crimes he faced.
According to an ICC statement issued on Tuesday, the court will make its decision on Thursday, May 6 at 11am Central European Summer Time (CEST) which is midday in Uganda.
Mr Ongwen, one of the feared commanders of the notorious Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), is the first member of the rebel group to appear before the court.
He was arrested in 2014 in the Central African Republic before he was sent to the Hague based court for trial.
He faced charges related to attacks on four camps for internally displaced people in Uganda in 2004. More than 4,000 victims provided testimony in the ICC case.
He is poised to face a maximum of life imprisonment.
