The opposition National Unity Platform party (NUP) has declared Museveni’s Inauguration ceremony slated for Wednesday, May 12 a day of National Prayer and Fasting.
The announcement was made by the party spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi in a tweet sent out on Tuesday afternoon just hours to the day of President Museveni swearing in for his 6th consecutive term in office.
“As NUP, we’ve declared tomorrow [May 12th 2021] a day of prayer and fasting. We’ll beseech God to heal Uganda (2Chronicles 7:14),” Joel said in a tweet
“As Mr. Museveni swears himself after a rigged election, killing, incarcerating and maiming people, NUP leaders will be at NUP offices to pray. You too can pray from wherever you’ll be,” he added.
Joel Ssenyonyi had earlier revealed that the NUP would not be attending the swearing in ceremony of President Yoweri Museveni saying if they attended they would be validating a stolen victory.
The announcement comes at a time when UPDf and the Military have sealed off NUP party offices along Old Kira Road in Kamwokya in anticipation of violence on inauguration day.
Whether NUP will be allowed to hold a prayer gathering at the party offices or not remains to be seen.
