Gov’t Declares Thursday 13th Public Holiday for Eid al-Fitr Celebrations

Government has declared tomorrow Thursday May 13th a public holiday for Eid-al-fitr celebrations.

Catherine Bitarakwate Musingwire, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Communication, Technology, and National Guidance directed the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) to relay the announcement to Ugandans.

“The Honorable Minister of Public Service informs the general public that Thursday 13th May 2021 is Eid-Al-Fitr and will be observed as a public holiday throughout Uganda,” reads the announcement from Ministry of Public Service.

In the same development, Sheikh Ali Twaibu Mpaso, the Director of Sharia at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) also confirmed to the Muslims that the Crescent mood was sighted on Wednesday so Eid will be celebrated tomorrow, Thursday.

Eid-al-Fitr is the first day of the month of Shawaal, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar which follows the holy month of Ramadhan.
